Day 1-Havana

Monday October 22nd, 2018

Welcome to Cuba!

Arrive in Havana via Jose Marti Airport. There the group will be met up by our expert bi-lingual guide and your tour officially begins! Enjoy a panoramic bus tour of Havana, which will include Old and Modern Havana as well as Vedado. Learn about the history of the city as well as the changes and influences in architecture as the city expanded. The group will then enjoy lunch at a local Havana    paladar, before checking into the Presidente Hotel in the Vedado section of Havana. Later that evening, the group will be picked up by classic Americans cars, and will be driven to iconic Hotel Nacional for a Welcome Dinner. Enjoy a traditional Habanero dinner, with a complimentary cocktail, as well as live music and dancing!

Day 2-Havana

Tuesday October 23rd, 2018

This morning the group will visit the Chinatown area of Havana. The first stop will be at the Wushu school. Here, children of all ages learn martial arts from the schools “Shifu” or master. Enjoy a performance of their martial art, as well as an exchange with the students to learn about their experience and the competitions they take part in. Enjoy a fusion lunch of Cuba/Chinese cuisine at a local Chinatown paladar. After, visit with representatives of The Cuban Institute for Friendship with the People (ICAP). The institute works to promote Cuban culture and society across the world by building bridges with other nations and organizations. ICAP collaborates with over 100 countries and over 1000 different grassroots, non-profits and cultural associations. Learn about their work and their role in the Cuban travel sector. Tonight, enjoy dinner as a group. After, meet with a chapter of local community project.

Day 3-Havana

Wednesday October 24th, 2018

After breakfast, visit the Fernando Ortiz foundation for a panel discussion on the affects of the Chinese presence and culture and its assimilation into Cuban culture. After, take a guided tour of the Univ. of Havana; take part in a Q&A with a faculty member to learn more about the school and its history. After lunch, the group will meet with the Union of Cuban Writers & Artists (UNEAC).  As the leading union of artists, UNEAC is responsible for the artistic education of many people on the island, as well as curating amazing art. Take part in a panel discussion about the Chinese presence and influence in Cuban art.

Day 4-Havana

Thursday October 25th, 2018

This morning the group will attend a presentation at Casa de Las Americas about the Chinese presence in America & Cuba, and the influences of the culture. Later in the morning, the group will visit the Literacy Museum to learn about the extremely successful social campaign that accounts for Cuba’s 98% literacy rate, one of the best in the world. After lunch, visit an elementary school that focus on the teaching of music.

Day 5-Havana

Friday October 26th, 2018

After the breakfast, the group will enjoy a scenic drive to the coastal town of Cojimar. The town is home to La Finca Vigia. The Finca was the home of famous American novelist Ernest Hemmingway. Take a tour of his home which has been turned into a national museum. The house has been untouched and most of Hemmingway’s original belongings are still there. After, take a brief panoramic tour of the coastal town. After lunch, visit a local community project that focus on afro-Cuban culture, religion & dance.

Day 6-Havana

Saturday October 27th, 2018

If you like art, then get ready for some of the best Havana has to offer. Take a guided tour of the Museum of Fine arts, with a focus on the collections of Wilfredo Lam & Flora Fong. After, visit a local community project that collaborates with local youths. The project looks over a local children’s park and it teaches boy and girls how to cut hair for free. The group will stop for lunch at the community projects very own paladar. Later, enjoy a walking tour of Old Havana. Start the tour at the Plaza de San Francisco, walk along the cobble-stone streets of the city as you learn about the history an expansion of the colonial city, as well as its vibrant architecture, stops at all of the major plazas, as well as the Graphic Arts Workshop. In the evening, enjoy a group Farwell Dinner, with complimentary cocktail, and live music an entertainment.

Day 7-Havana

Sunday October 28th, 2018

All great things must come to an end, and today we pack our bags and head on home! After breakfast, transfer to the Jose Marti airport to check-in to the flight back home.
